TEMPLIN FAMILY ASSOCIATION Scribe – Samme Templin Winter 2008/2009 *** ***DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED AFTER ________________________________________________________________________ 2008 Attendance was good considering the fact that gas prices
were through the roof. There were 40 plus attendee’s at the reunion. Fern
Miller was the oldest attendee, Braeden Templin was the youngest attendee, and
Adele Lancaster traveled the farthest. Laura Faye Templin had made the Templin Family quilt (which
is beautiful) and Harry Templin handled the display of the quilt for all to see
and enjoy. The members decided to keep the quilt for the association and
display the quilt at future reunions. Those in attendance who had not had a
chance to sign the quilt could do so because Laura Faye had left blank blocks
for just such folks. The slate of officers were nominated and approved for the
2008 – 2010 term: President – Trey Templin, V-President – Harry Templin, Old Fort, NC harry.templin1@verizon.net Treasurer – John Templin, Scribe – Samme Templin, Genealogist – Marvin &
Samme Templin, Several sites were discussed for the 2010
reunion location and the members decided on the Sevierville/Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg,
TN area with Harry & Midge Templin and Marvin & Samme Templin in charge
of the arrangements. Depending upon the best rates possible the date for the
reunion will be decided at that time. Several dates ever discussed for the
reunion with the understanding that cost has a huge factor in the final
decision. Marvin Templin has scanned in original
documents that he has for the lineage of James Templin and Mary Salmon (deeds,
wills) and Samuel Templin of IN MEMORY OF Robert
Arthur Templin passed away December 1, 2008 in Baytown, TX.
Ruth Lorraine Daringer Templin passes away January 28, 2009 in From the President’s Corner: It seems like it was only yesterday when
everyone traveled to My name is Trey Alan Templin of I realized after attending my second
association meeting, that not many young people are involved. Part of
becoming the new President, I was tasked with coming up with some new ideas for
bringing in the younger generations. With that being said, I have created
a group on Facebook (www.facebook.com). If you are a member of
Facebook, you can join the group “Templin Family Association” for free.
If you are not a member of Facebook, it is a free organization that allows to
you meet new people as well as friends, colleagues,
and family. I personally have been able to connect with old high school
classmates that I have not seen in 12 years. Additionally, there are several other
items in the works that we hope to unveil at the next meeting. I look
forward to meeting each one of you at the next meeting in Sincerely, Trey
A. Templin President,
Templin Family Association ______________________________________________________________________________ Genealogy Corner: 2008 was a very busy year for both Marvin
and me. Marvin worked on scanning lots of original documents that we have on
the different lineages so that they could be placed in one place for folks to
view. This also helps us to review our data and make additions or changes to
our work which is always a good thing to do. Anyone who would like to contribute family
information are very welcome to do so. JOHN TEMPLIN By Marvin Templin Ancestry of the James and Mary Salmon
Templin Lineage The genealogy of the Templin Family has been
evasive to researchers/genealogist for many years, due to the limited amount of
records that we had access to. The word of mouth was really our best source but
was not always correct. There was a lot of traveling involved,
searching court house records where possible, and going to a lot of cemeteries.
The researchers came up with some information and tried to put it together.
They came up with genealogies that made a lot of sense and appeared to be
correct. They recorded these genealogies in books, sold them and placed them in
Libraries across the country and also in the Library of Congress. In doing that, it was permanently recorded in
History. Then three things happened. The freedom
of information act made accessing records easier, the Internet, which has many
people working to put actual records on the Internet so a lot of research can
be done at home and then came DNA testing. As all this became available we
found that a lot of the old genealogies were not correct. This is what I have found with the
Templin Genealogy. We cannot change what has been recorded or what people
believe. We are attempting to put proposed genealogies out with all the records
that we can find. In our search for
records we came across a record in the This
file has all the original records that I have been able to locate as of the
